In January 2007 a blog post titled Black Google Would Save 750 Megawatt-hours a Year proposed the theory that a black version of the Google search engine would save a fair bit of energy due to the popularity of the search engine. The idea is that it takes more energy to make a computer pixel white than it does to make it black, and that over all the Google searches, this adds up to huge savings.
Enter Blackle— black Google. If you want a more eco-friendly way to search, give it a try.
