I created a couple of IFTTT recipes to save the sanity of my fellow coworkers at TechLiminal, but you can adapt my recipes to automatically silence your phone when you arrive at school or work and unmute it when you leave.
Unmute Your Phone when you Leave TechLiminal, Oakland, CA
Just install the IFTTT app on your phone (Android only, sorry iOS!) and search for “Techliminal”. Just add those recipes to your favorites and enable them for your IFTTT account.
You’ll probably want to change the location trigger to somewhere local for you, unless you are a fellow TechLiminalien like us. Just search for a location where you want to automatically mute and unmute your phone, and you’ll never have to worry about being the ringtone doofus at school or work again.
This is just one of the many awesome integrations you can make with IFTTT. You should probably spend some time getting to know this powerful tool— especially if you’re the kind of teacher who uses lots of free Web 2.0 tools like Google Docs, Twitter, Instagram, and Evernote– you may find interesting ways to use these tools together in creative ways to scratch your own unique workflow itches.
